If you wish to filter messages already being sent then you need to use
outgoing filter rules. If you wish to filter messages already sent
then you need to create read filters and run them manually on the sent
folder.

Is this mail that has already been sent or do you wish to filter
messages which will be sent in the future? See my previous above
statements.

I need more info. Is this incoming messages that you need to filter. Or
do you wish to filter messages already received? If the messages are
received, are they already read, are they unread or is there a mixture?

They do pass through the outbox even though you send them right away.
This is why outgoing message filters will work for messages which you
send immediately.
