I think you are in right direction.
IIRC  I  have problem if the message having "Content-Disposition" (and I
have  post  it  to  TBBETA  list). In my case the message not having any
attachment,  but message is blank even the size not empty. If I open the
*.msg using Windows Explorer, I can see the content.

But  starting from 1.45/SMIME this problem has been fixed (I didn't test
1.45 without S/MIME).

Suggestion, try to use 1.45/SMIME, see the result.
