Further comments to earlier e-mail:

I tried Atlantis Nova and found the kerning awful in smaller fonts
e.g Arial 8-12, i.e. the gaps between the letters are uneven and
irritating.

NoteTab is plain text only.

Wordpad is free but very poor in features. You could try Cwordpad
(Cetis software) which is a slight improvement. But I still reckon
Jarte is the best. Looks a bit gimmicky at first but packed with
features underneath and really cool to use.
