Due to too much traffic on my webservers, connections are slow. That gives me ample time to study the connection centre.
In the top screen, there's an up- or down-arrow, depending on whether mail is being sent or fetched. After the arrow is a small dot. I clicked on it. The blue square P for 'parked message' appeared instead of the dot. _Parked_ fetching mail?
