Have you verified that TheBat! is the default client.
First verify the following:
TheBat! | Options | Prefernces | Applications
(x) Check that TheBat is the default mail client at startup
Then verify that TheBat! believes that it is the default mail client:
Exit TheBat!
Start TheBat! again.
If, for some reason, TheBat! doesn't think that it is the default
email client, it will ask you if it should be.
