well , as they write it in abc there will be potential variations
around as Thai written in ENGLISH letters with its irregular spelling
of its own shows some great (out of topic) confusing results....
Thani, Thanee etc etc
I was told that peacecorps had to so with setting rules up in Thailand
regarding spelling.. a great pity(g) as almost any other language would have
been better to give a systematic result..

My son's name is RAAD. The way we gave it to them, long A.
Idiots in BKK when making a passport made it into RAT.
This distinctly sounds different(g)....  and has a different meaning.
Obviously Thais donot realise that RAT isnt a suitable name in
European languages... as they themselves use NOO (ie mouse/rat ) as
nickname...
When translating various papers I always tell the translating office
what certain words like names where to prevent identical disasters...

By the way Burirom in the long name above is also name of a town
providing many of the nice girls one encounters in Thailand...
