I followed your advice. IE does not abend. This means that the problem is clearly with The Bat. In a previous message on another topic I said that The Bat is unable to handle some HTML that other mail program handle. This has been proven by I receiving the same message that my friends have - their mail programs have not crashed, nor have they brought down the whole operating system. I looked at the message with a hex viewer. The message commences with a Carriage Return followed by a Line Feed. The human readable text then follows, commencing byte 3. Unfortunately The Bat does not have good error recovery routines.
