Out of curiousity, what are the icons up there? From time to time, I've had other applications hog the whole screen, but have their mazimised state set to false, but the size of the window set to the full screen. Try making sure the middle icon (max/restore) button is the picture of the single window, then try using the title bar to move the window around. You should then be able to grab the window by the corners, and resize it...
