Hi John, > I understand it's possible to run TB using the WINE > code on Linux systems. What is the general verdict on > how well this works?
I have run TB! under Fedora Core 1 using Crossover Office. I've seen it mentioned that TB! has run under WINE as well. There are compatibility problems with Prelinking and Exec Shield in both WINE and Crossover Office that require certain default system options be changed. Once I changed the options, I was able to operate TB! with only minor annoyances - connection center displays a blank screen, but it works and I cannot minimize TB! to the tray. If I do, it "goes away" and I can't retrieve it. I haven't spent much time playing with TB! as my FC1 install has very much been a "play with it until I break it" kind of thing. I was waiting for FC2 with the 2.6 kernel to come out so I could do a clean install of everything and then test TB! out again. If I remember correctly, certain functions such as SmartBat didn't work as well. Like I said, though, I've broken a lot of things and that may be why. My goal is to get a working copy of TB! with a shared e-mail directory on all three systems (triple boot - W2k, WinXP and FC1). I've already accomplished that with Thunderbird. But Thunderbird isn't TB! It's a shame that it doesn't seem like there's any interest at Ritlabs to develop a Linux version. I've used all the MUAs I could find on Linux and none comes close to TB!. -- Regards, Terry Using The Bat! v2.01.3 on Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 1 ________________________________________________ Current version is 2.02.3 CE | "Using TBUDL" information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
