Too frequently I've finished download mail and can then do nothing with the mouse. But the same thing happens at other times; I think composing and sending an e-mail is one. I'm not sure your problem is the same as I have. Next time TB! "freezes," try ALT+F4 and then restore the focus to The Bat!.
