Say you download a software with a 30-day trial period. You copy it
into a directory you crate for it. After 30 days, you delete it
leaving the data files intact, and just install it again. You can do
indefinitely.

With installation, some un-obvious registry keys are created that make
it impossible to just install it a second time. I believe that is the
whole point of using the registry.

For settings, I would still prefer an .ini file or such ratehr than
the registry, preferrably in ASCII format.
