Spent far too long poncing about with this task now so I'll just set it as a scheduled Windows task to check the folder daily and convert files, or run it manually with a WinHotKey if I need to do it inbetween. I'll go back to it some time when I do actually have the time to faff about with it. Your input appreciated though.
