Apologies if you receive this message multiple times! Below are CFPs for PhD Colloquium, Advanced seminar, Demos, Industry track papers of IEEE MDM 2012.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 1. PhD Colloquium in conjunction with MDM 2012 The PhD Colloquium, which will be held in conjunction with MDM 2012, specifically targets PhD students and candidates, who are hereby invited to present and discuss their preliminary results or work-in-progress, in an internationally renowned audience of researchers and developers. The PhD Colloquium has the same topics of interest as the main MDM 2012 conference. The main objective of the MDM 2012 PhD colloquium is to offer an opportunity to the PhD students to receive high-quality feedback from external reviewers and to directly interact with peers, exchange ideas, discuss concepts, and establish (in)formal cooperation with various research groups. PhD students and candidates at all stages are welcome to submit a thesis-position paper, but preference will be given to students in the earlier stages of their PhD work. Participants will be expected to give short and informal presentations of their work during the Colloquium, to be followed by a panel-like discussion. The submitted paper should clearly state: + The original key idea / hypothesis of the thesis + The problem domain and the specific problem addressed + An overview of related work in the area of the PhD work + Methodological approach + Research carried out + The expected contributions (in line with the field of MDM) Submission and Review Process: Submissions should be at most 4 pages long and follow the IEEE camera-ready format used for the main MDM conference papers. More information and links to templates can be found from the MDM 2012 web page (i.e., http://mdmconferences.org/mdm2012/node/13). Submissions in PDF are to be submitted to the PhD track at the conference submission site (https://cmt2.research.microsoft.com/MDM2012/Default.aspx). Since this is expected to be a work conducted by the PhD students, we only request that: 1. The first author is a PhD student who is mainly responsible for conducting the research on the respective topic. 2. Names of the authors are preceded by: Student: and, where applicable, Advisor: The colloquium chairs will arrange the selection of the accepted papers using a peer review process. The accepted thesis position papers will be published in the Volume II of the MDM 2012 proceedings, and at least one of the main authors is expected to register for the conference and present the work at the corresponding session. The colloquium participants will pay the normal student registration fee. Call for Advanced Seminars The MDM series of conferences, since its debut in December 1999, has established itself as a prestigious forum for exchanging innovative and significant research results pertaining to various issues in Mobile Data Management. The term mobile in MDM has been used from the very beginning to encompass many different application domains in which the mobility aspect is among the key ingredients – from problems related to effective use and communication management of various wireless and portable devices, to efficient management of spatio-temporal queries and events detection. The MDM conference provides unique opportunities for researchers, engineers, practitioners and developers to familiarize themselves with new ideas, techniques and tools, as well as to exchange different experiences. The remarkable advancements in portable and mobile computing devices and the development of myriad of sophisticated sensors are changing the way we interact with our environment. This has led to an unprecedented explosion in the generation of mobile data. While skillful management and analysis of such data may enable countless attractive services and novel applications, it imposes formidable challenges as well. New technologies such as mobile cloud computing, crowdsourcing and next generation wireless networks are but few examples of recent developments which are both addressing some of the existing challenges in mobile data management and analytics, and bringing about novel ones. The 2012 International Conference on Mobile Data Management (MDM 2012), to be held in Bangalore, India (July 23-26, 2012), solicits Advanced Seminars that would present experiences with, and a vision of, such emerging technologies and address different dimensions of the ever-changing space of mobile data management in the years to come – based on valid research on mobile technology, business or community aspects. Examples of Possible Topics (Note: the list is just indicative and by no means exhaustive) + Mobile devices and data analytics + Mobile crowdsourcing + Mobile cloud computing + Ubiquitous computing: Are we there already? + Body networking and mobile computing + Green mobility/Mobile data for green computing + The future of context-aware services? Formatting and Submission Guidelines: An advanced seminar will be part of the main conference program occupying one or two full sessions (1.5/3 hours). The planned length should be indicated in the proposal. We plan to include into the conference program up to three advanced seminars. The scientific and technical level of the materials used in the presentation should be balance the breadth and the depth in a manner that will enable an average conference participant to understand the main topics without larger effort. The proposal for an advanced seminar should be submitted as a PDF document and should contain the following information: + Title of the intended seminar + Names and affiliations of the persons proposing the seminar + Duration of the seminar + Up to 4 pages of an extended abstract describing the main topic(s) to be presented at the seminar, along with motivation, background, and tentative outline of the major identifiable (sub)units in the presentation + Description of what possible special ICT infrastructure may be needed to run the seminar, along with other requirements. The submissions must be sent as an email-attachment (pdf) to both Advanced Seminar Chairs: Goce Trajcevski ([email protected]) and Nilanjan Banerjee ( [email protected]). Both chairs are available to answer questions concerning the Advanced Seminars. Note that the final document of an accepted seminar must be compiled into a one page abstract, which will be included into the proceedings (Vol. 2) of the MDM 2012 conference. The abstracts must adhere to the general formatting guidelines of the proceedings ( http://mdmconferences.org/mdm2012/node/13). At least one of the authors of an accepted proposal will be required to register for (and present at) the conference. Important Dates: Submission of Proposals: February 27, 2012 Acceptance notification: March 15, 2012 Final Abstract due: March 30, 2012 Seminar: July 23-26, 2012 MDM Advanced Seminar Co-chairs: Goce Trajcevski (Northwestern University, USA) Nilanjan Banerjee (IBM Research, India) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Call for Demos The 13th IEEE International Conference on Mobile Data Management (MDM 2012), to be held in Bangalore, India (July 23-26, 2012) solicits interesting demonstrations of original research prototypes related to all aspects of mobile data management. This demo session has been introduced this year to strengthen the interactions between researchers and practitioners. It offers an exciting opportunity for participants to demonstrate their state-of-the-art results to a wide audience of professionals in the area of mobile, ubiquitous, and pervasive computing. The demo program provides a highly interactive environment where participants can demonstrate innovative research prototypes and receive feedback from the experts on their applicability in the real world as well as the inputs from researchers to improvise the same. Demonstrations of advanced implementations and innovative prototypes covering any of the research areas relevant to the MDM conference are encouraged for submission. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following: + Context and Location-aware services + Mobile Analytics solutions + Multi-device mobile interactions + Novel mobile applications + Augmented reality systems + Rich query interfaces + Mobile databases, systems, services and middleware + Pervasive data management and middleware + Data mining solutions for mobile networks + Transactions and workflows in mobile environments + People-centric mobile sensing networks and smart urban spaces + Mobile social applications and services Demo proposals should clearly describe what will be demonstrated and how the contributions will be illustrated interactively. They should describe the design, implementation, and use of the systems. It is highly recommended to include in the proposals a URL that shows a preview of the demo (e.g., on-line video of the demo, screenshots, etc.). Submission Instructions: All submitted demo proposals must be formatted according to IEEE camera-ready format ( http://www.ieee.org/web/publications/pubservices/confpub/AuthorTools/con...) and must be no longer than four (4) pages.
