CALL FOR PAPERS

=================================================================================

*ETSIoT 2012*

                     The First IEEE Workshop on

Enabling Technologies for Smartphone and Internet of Things (IoT)

June 18, 2012

Millennium Seoul Hilton Hotel, Seoul, Republic of Korea

               http://www.ieee-secon.org/workshops.html

Co-located with IEEE SECON 2012 and

                sponsored by IEEE Communication Society

--------------------------------------------------------------------**

*Internet of Things (IoT)* is emerging as a novel paradigm advancing the

quality of our lives. During the last decade, the Internet has created

immense information and services by interconnecting computers. When this

interconnection is extended to encompass ambient smart devices such as

sensors, actuators and controllers, people will be empowered anew with the

capabilities afforded by integrating cyber and physical space resources.

Thus, the change that IoT can bring will be at an unparalleled level from

what human being have experienced by any other paradigms.

Toward the change, the *smartphone *comes to the fore. The smartphone
already

contains processing power much higher than that of a personal computer

several years ago. Also, it has capabilities of an intelligent hub

connecting the Internet and smart devices with communication technologies

such as cellular, WiFi, Bluetooth, RFID etc. Above all, the smartphone is

well positioned to mediate between a person who needs services and smart

devices forming digital environments.

The beneficiaries of such smartphone and IoT technologies are, first, many

existing *applications* such as personal healthcare, entertainments, smart

home/community/city and intelligent transportation systems. In addition, a

plethora of new applications are envisioned to arise.

Communication and computing are two key *enabling technologies* to realize

the vision of IoT. For example, low power communication and computing are

critical because a significant portion of ambient devices are expected to

be operated on battery. Efficient communication protocols and algorithms

are important. Timely information processing, context awareness, mobile

and sensor cloud technologies should be prepared as well for the next

generation smartphone (NGS).

* *

*The aim of this workshop *is to bring together academic researchers and

industrial experts possessing the vision of IoT with smartphones. Problems,

technologies, applications and the future directions will be shared and

discussed through technical presentations.

* *

*Topics of interest include*, but are not limited to:

- Next Generation Smartphone(NGS) for IoT/M2M

- Communication technologies for NGS, ambient smart sensors and actuators

- System architectures, service platform and management for NGS and ambient

sensors and actuators

- Low energy communication and computing

- Standards for NGS communications and computing

- Sensor and mobile cloud system

- Mobile gateway and mobile router

- Semantic sensor web

- Security, Privacy, Smart spaces, Context Awareness

- Experimental prototypes and testbed

- New applications, services and concept including healthcare, smart grid,

consumer electronics, intelligent transport system, smart

home/community/city

- NGS challenges and future trends

*PAPER SUBMISSION AND PUBLICATION*

All submissions must describe original research, not published or currently

under review for another workshop, conference, or journal. All papers must

be submitted electronically via the EDAS system: http://edas.info/. Papers

must be no longer than 6 pages and in font size no smaller than 10 points.

Detailed layout guidelines except the page length are the same as

recommended in http://www.ieee-secon.org/submission.html. Submission

implies the willingness of at least one author to attend the workshop and

present the paper. Accepted papers will be included in the main

proceedings of IEEE SECON 2012 and published by IEEE.

*IMPORTANT DATES*

Manuscripts Due: March 31st, 2012

Acceptance Notification: May 4th, 2012
