Postdoctoral Research Fellow EPSRC INTelligent Energy awaRe NETworks (INTERNET) project (1 Post) Postdoctoral Research Fellow EPSRC SwiTching And tRansmission (STAR) project (1 Post) INTERNET is a 5 year (2010-2015), £5.9m EPSRC funded project. It will develop the vision for a future green telecommunications network landscape taking into account the overall technological environment driving the evolution and energy requirements over the next few years. The project represents a collaboration between the Universities of Leeds and Cambridge and a number of industrial collaborators including BT, BBC, Cisco, Ericsson, Oclaro, Avago, Broadcom, Telecom New Zealand and Solarflare. STAR is a 3 year (2013-2015) EPSRC project. It adopts adopt the GreenTouch energy saving target of a factor of a 100 for Core Switching and Routing. A key observation in core networks is that most of the power is consumed in the IP layer while optical transmission and optical switching are power efficient in comparison. Therefore it will introduce energy efficient optimum physical network topologies that encourage optical transmission and optical switching at the expense of IP routing whenever possible. It is a collaboration between the Universities of Leeds, Cambridge, INRIA and AGH and industrial partners BT and Alcatel-Lucent. Post 1, INTERNET: Post Doctoral Research Fellow: Energy efficient network design (up to 31 May 2015) You will have experience in communication network optimisation techniques. You will focus on network architecture design for energy efficient content distribution and optimum use of renewable energy sources and will interact with researchers working on node architecture design, and link to the industrial collaborators and to work on network sustainability. You will develop appropriate mathematical models to capture the key characteristics of energy consumption in different architectures and develop appropriate optimisation models and heuristics and implement the resulting algorithms in appropriate hardware platforms in test beds and in simulators. Post 2, STAR: Post Doctoral Research Fellow: Topology modelling and cross layer design (up to 31 Dec 2012) You will have experience in communication network design and optimisation. You will study energy efficient node and network design, link to the design of large photonic switch architectures in the project and optimise cross layer designs for energy efficiency. You will link with the industrial collaborators and project partners and work on topology modelling, network control, and monitoring for energy efficiency.
