The Electrical and Computer Engineering department at the University of Miami is looking for a self-motivated full-time Ph.D. student (Research Assistant) to conduct cutting-edge research for shaping the next-generation of wireless networks. The position is part of a project aimed at developing self-organizing wireless small cell networks. The selected candidate will enjoy working with a variety of collaborators from different institutions (see http://resume.walid-saad.com), and will have regular summer internships and visits at Bell Labs, Germany, where he/she will be able to work with leading industry researchers in this area. The position is fully funded including a tuition waiver and a competitive monthly salary. The interested candidate should meet the following criteria: - Holding or expected to obtain (before August 2013) an M. S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or other related disciplines. - Strong background in mathematics and analytical thinking. - Background in wireless and communication networks is desirable, but interested candidates from other areas are also welcome. - Knowledge of (or interest in) game theory and/or machine learning/data mining is a big plus. - Ability to pursue independent research. - Excellent written and communication skills in English.
