Dear colleagues, Please find the attached CFP for the International Workshop on Optical Networking (iWON 2013, http://cs.gsu.edu/cao/iwon).
iWON'13 will be held in the same city (i.e., Downtown Atlanta) and time as IEEE GLOBECOM'13 (however, it is NOT a part of Globecom'13.) Submission deadline is August 2, 2013. Workshop date is December 9th. We thank the sponsors: Huawei Enterprise USA Inc. and Georgia State University. Please consider submitting to this workshop, whose main focus is on the latest cutting-edge research of optical networking. A few features of the workshop are as follows: - Invited talks by high-profile leaders - 2-page extended abstract or position paper only - No registration fee - Free breakfast, lunch and (possible) dinner for the registered attendees Regards, Workshop Chair: Xiaojun (Matt) Cao <[email protected]>, Georgia State University ================================================================ [Please accept our apologies if you receive multiple copies of this message] -------------------------------------------------------- CALL FOR PAPERS -------------------------------------------------------- International Workshop on Optical Networking (iWON 2013) Downtown Atlanta - Rialto Center, Dec. 9, 2013 Note: even though iWON'13 will be held in the same city (i.e., Downtown Atlanta) as IEEE GLOBECOM'13, it is NOT a part of Globecom'13. http://cs.gsu.edu/cao/iwon --------------- IMPORTANT DATES --------------- August 2, 2013: Paper Submission September 20, 2013: Notification of Acceptance October 18, 2013: Camera-Ready Paper December 9, 2013: Workshop date ----- Scope ----- The latest developments in big data, cloud computing and data center have ignited the significant amount of interests in optical networking from academia, industry, and standardization organizations. Optical networking has become the pervasive and indispensable technology for high-speed data communications in Internet and cyber-physical systems (CPS). One of the paramount challenges that come along with such wide-scale deployment of optical technologies, is how to embed more and more intelligence into the underlying optical networks to improve the cost-effectiveness, spectrum utilization and energy efficiency of the system. For instance, Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is recently introduced to optical domain to encode signal on multiple carrier frequencies, which enable optical networks to offer elastic, adaptable and spectrum-efficient optical path services. At the same time, this poses novel challenges in spectrum spacing, allocation, fragmentation, grooming, protection, restoration and so on. Similarly, many issues such as connectivity, reliability and power consumption need to be addressed when applying optical networking technologies for intra-/inter-data center networks as well as cloud computing. In fact, the anticipated steady increase in data traffic to be carried out by optical networks will further magnify the demands for more studies on these challenges and issues. This workshop aims to bring together the researchers who are interested in optical networking to share and discuss the latest research developments and innovative implementations in the design of smart optical network architectures, protocols, algorithms, services, and applications. With invited talks, in-depth (panel) discussions, and promising presentations/posters, the workshop will focus on exploring new venues of collaboration and increasing the synergy between academic and industry professionals working in this area. We plan to seek papers that address theoretical, experimental research, and work in-progress for related issues in smart optical networking that include, but are not limited to, the following. * Flex-Grid networks, elastic optical networks, optical OFDM * Optical switching technologies and architectures, optical network design and performance evaluation * SDN, optical network control and management * Cloud computing and datacenter networks, network virtualization and other emerging applications * Energy efficient/green optical technologies * Fiber-wireless integration, heterogeneous optical networks, and survivable network designs ----------- Instructions for Authors ----------- Authors are invited to submit original research and recent developments in the topics related to the workshop. The manuscripts submitted for review should be in the form of a 2-page extended abstract or position paper. An accepted paper must be presented at the workshop by one of the authors. For the accepted papers, the authors have the option to upload a full version of the paper (no more than 6 pages) to be published in the workshop final proceedings. A few highlights for the workshop are as follows: * Invited talks by high-profile leaders * No registration fee * Free breakfast, lunch and (possible) dinner for the registered attendees ----------- Submission Instructions ----------- All manuscripts are submitted through the online conference paper management system called “EasyChair” (https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=iwon13). This system gives you, the author, a complete control over your submission before the deadline. You can upload your work and check on the review status of your submission. Submitted manuscripts must be formatted in standard IEEE camera-ready format (double-column, 10-pt font) as PDF files (formatted for 8.5x11-inch paper). Authors are encouraged to visit the workshop website (http://cs.gsu.edu/cao/iwon) for more updated details. ----------------- Workshop Chair ----------------- Xiaojun (Matt) Cao, Georgia State University ----------------- Program Committee ----------------- Vishal Anand State University of New York, USA Hakki Cankaya Fujitsu Lab of America Inc., USA Nasir Ghani University of New Mexico, USA Ashwin Gumaste Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay Hiroaki Harai NICT, Japan Pin-Han Ho University of Waterloo, Canada Lei Liu University of California at Davis, USA Ahmed Kamal Iowa State University, USA Eiji Oki University of Electro-Comm, Japan Ankitkumar Patel NEC Lab America Inc, USA George Rouskas North Carolina State Univ., USA Galen Sasaki University of Hawaii, USA Gangxiang Shen Soochow University, China Suresh Subramaniam George Washington University, USA Massimo Tornatore Politecnico Di Milano, Italy Yang Wang Inernap Corp, USA Lena Wosinska KTH, Sweden Xiaoping Zheng Tsinghua University, China (to be updated) ----------------- Publicity Chair ----------------- Anu Bourgeois, Georgia State University, USA ----------------- Steering Committee ----------------- Biswanath Mukherjee, UC Davis Yi Pan, Georgia State University Chunming Qiao, Univ. at Buffalo _______________________________________________ IEEE Communications Society Tech.
