it would probably make sense for you read up on cvs a bit.
it will provide you with pretty much all of what you want

i have a friend who does a lot of cm stuff w/ cvs i'll see
if he has a shell script handy that does some of this.
it's probabaly only a few lines long so you may just want to 
learn a bit of cvs and do it yourself..
