I am pleased to announce the pre-release availability of the
TclBlend 1.2.5 source code from the Scriptics CVS repository.
The code is in the mainline, you just need to do a checkout
of the "tcljava" module with no branch tags.

I have been working with Mo DeJong to move the TclBlend and Jacl
sources back to Scriptics. The plan is to release TclBlend 1.2.5
as a Scriptics-supported TEA-compliant extension. Mo will continue
work on TclBlend and Jacl on a new 1.3 branch. At this time,
Scriptics will _not_ be providing support for Jacl. However, we
will be happy to receive patches to Jacl or to the common
"tcljava" sources. Jacl 1.2.5 will also be released, the
details of which are still in the works, but should coincide
with the final TclBlend 1.2.5 release.

What is in this pre-release:

TclBlend (and Jacl) 1.2.4 sources, with only a few minor
  changes to accomodate TEA compliance
TEA-compliant Makefile at the top level which can:
* build TclBlend
* use JDK 1.1.x and 1.2.x on Solaris (probably any Unix)
* use JDK 1.2.x on WinNT
* all from one common set of Makefiles and configure
  scripts

The pieces necessary to build Jacl are not currently in
the Makefile, but should not be too much trouble to add.
Anyone is welcome to contribute the patches necessary to
add Jacl to the build.

We have not tried using JDKs other than Sun's on Solaris
and Windows. If you are using any other JDK or are running
on another platform, please try it (and try to fix it if
possible, sending us the patch). You will not be able to
use the new TEA makefiles to build with JDK 1.1.x on WinNT
because the JDK needs '\'s as file separators, which would
require some major hacks in the Makefiles. JDK 1.2.x on
WinNT works fine with '/'s in the filenames, and works
fine with the new TEA makefiles.

Also, I have not checked the old makefiles, especially the
WinNT makefile which may still be used to build with JDK 1.1.x.
Patches to the older WinNT makefiles are still welcome for
this reason.

The details behind the Scriptics support of TclBlend is still
in the works and should be hammered out soon. Anyone interested
in commercial support of TclBlend should contact
[EMAIL PROTECTED] We plan on supporting only JDK/JRE 1.2.2+
on WinNT, other JDK/JRE support on other platforms is still
TBD. On Solaris, we plan to at least support JDK/JRE 1.2.2+.
We will announce our support plans on [EMAIL PROTECTED]
(the new mailing list address) and on comp.lang.tcl when they
are finalized.

Again, support for Jacl is not planned at this time, but you
may still contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you are wanting Jacl
support.
