I would recommend using the tooltip package instead. An example:
Tkx::package_require('tooltip');
# get 'tooltip' as toplevel command
Tkx::namespace_import("::tooltip::tooltip");
Tkx::tooltip($mymenu, -index => 1, "Menu Tooltip");
