I love this idea of introducing ourselves! Thanks for the invitation.

I grew up in Maryland and graduated from the U. of Md. with a degree in
journalism. I started out as a reporter way back in the 1970s, had two
kids, and eventually went back to school to take classes to become a tech
writer. They included one technical writing class and about five
programming classes. This got me my first tech writing job at CompuServe,
which lasted a couple years until child #3 came along.

After a few years of freelance technical editing, I started worked
part-time in the computer center of a large research and development firm:
writing, tech support, and teaching classes. A friend had asked me to come
in an interview. Apparantly, it was easy for them to justify hiring me
since I wanted to work part-time.

I enjoyed this job immensely for nine years until I was told about a small
start-up computer company called Foresight. It had a good product and good
staff. Their only open position was for a salesperson, but I sent them a
letter and resume telling them that I wanted to talk with them when they
were ready for a support/documentation person.

About six months later, I got a call, got the job in 1993 and am still
here. I've been a lone tech writer/trainer since then, except for a brief
time when there was a second tech writer/trainer. We have so much product
now and it is updated so often that it is a challenge keeping up. I have
had to learn the meaning of "good enough."

I use Word, Adobe Acrobat, and Doc-to-Help as my main tools. We have a good
group of developers who are happy to give input and review the docs. We
also have a good tech support group who do the final review.

I live in a suburb of Columbus, OH. My husband and I have been married
since 1968 and have two sons, one daughter, and one grandson. We also have
a goofy yellow Lab named Skyler and a friendly little kitty named Celeste.

Away from work, I am a nature lover. I am coordinating a park project in my
hometown which is described at www.otterbeinlake.org.

Cheers!

Lindalee
