Well, what's currently in the x.8 branch for libpcap, past 0.8.3, are:

        1) some WinPcap fixes;

        2) a fix for systems lacking "snprintf()";

        3) some fixes for systems using DLPI (Solaris and HP-UX);

        4) a fix for IRIX (or maybe it's UNICOS);

        5) a fix for what might have been a compile error similar to the
           one the person saw on HP-UX;

and, for tcpdump, past 3.8.3, are:

        1) a fix for the inet_aton configure problem;

        2) a fix that might be the one the person saw on HP-UX;

        3) some ICMPv6 and DHCPv6 updates;

        4) some other fixes (option-processing fixes in IPv4, pflog
           updates, PPP crash fix, header length sanity checks in TCP,
           etc.).
