Hi there,

I'm new to tcpdump. I've just run tcpdump -a on my linux RedHat 5.2 machine
( 2.2.13 ) called dangweth.

I see many lines similar to the one in the subject title. The figure of 42
changes for each line.

When i run tcpdump -a -s 0, i loose the missing byte output.

Please can you explain what is going on here?
And in layman terms explain what a "snaplen" means.
I understand that the -s stands for snarf. Except i don't know what snarf
means.

Any help really appreciated,

Thank you in advance,

regards,

-Simon-
