Hi,

we are using tcpdump to record network traffic from an 1 GB ethernet
interface on a linux box (intel x86, 2.4.19). When tcpdump stops recording
it dumps a message like:
...
10717 packets received by filter
22 packets dropped by kernel

Could someone explain what exactly happens (in kernel and/or tcpdump) when
tcpdump counts a "packet dropped by kernel" and how we can tread this value
to zero?

Thanks in advance.

Thomas
