    I routinely suggest watching nightly news, reading newspapers,
magazines, listening to talk radio, etc.  It is an open-ended suggestion
meaning that if the students see  something they want to share, bring it to
class. I find that gradually some students will clip news articles, quote
something from a news broadcast, or remark that what they heard on the news
was something that had been discussed in class. Sometimes, controversial
subjects can be more  easily discussed if the issue is in the news,
especially when different points of views are presented..
