Del had mentioned sometime back that he thought the way to
"teach" soc was to think of it from a modeling studio perspective (Del,
let me know if i am incorrect). i have been thinking about this for
some time and i think i may have hit upon something similar (and I am
sure you will let me know if this is on target or not!).
i am giving my Soc Problems students a review today for an
upcoming exam, except...i'm not doing the review, they are. i am
providing them with some scenarios and it is up to them to address each
scenario using material from the text and lectures. i have (hopefully)
designed each scenario so that they main ideas will be covered in their
responses.
It dawned on me that i could "teach" this way for many classes
as opposed to just doing this as a review. we are big on cooperative
learning here, and getting students to work in groups, so it hit me
that one way to teach concepts is to provide them with scenarios in
which they are to respond to using material from the text, each other,
etc., and then i could comment on their work.
am i on the right track, Del?
