Hi all and happy holidays...
As part of a broad look at whether or not the US is truly a nation of family values, I'm going to focus on modern communication and relationships as one aspect of my Sociology of the Family course this spring.  Does anyone know any classroom exercises for about 20 students to illustrate that, while modern technology ostensibly facilitates communication, we consequently suffer from communication-hindering distancing and distraction: too much multi-tasking brought about by technology (talking on the phone while instant messaging, for example -- which I've seen my 10 year old do!)  So relationships suffer from the lack of intimate contact brought about by technology intended to make contact more accessible.
