It's actually a much simpler mathematical artifact. If you add the digits together for any number between 1 and 99 and then subtract the sum, there are only a few possible solutions that CAN result (for example, for any number between 99 and 90, the solution is 81; for any number between 89 and 80, the solution is 72; for any number between 79 and 70, the solution is 63... and so on). If you look at the full chart, you'll find that each of these key numbers has the same symbol. Each time you hit "submit," the system refreshes and assigns new symbols to every number in the chart... but 81, 72, 63, 54, 45, etc. will still all have the same symbol, and that's the symbol that the computer "guesses" you were thinking of.

Cool indeed. Easy to spot once you realize that the computer is assigning a new set of symbols each time it refreshes-- until then, quite the mystery.

I've queried my engineering psyc colleagues about it--i'm thinking it is either something with perception--you see what you focus on or more probably, some mathmatical probablility...morten

That is too cool for words!  How does it work?  As always, A.
