We may be making offers to job candidates in a week or two, and I'd like

some sense of what other institutions are paying for new or nearly new

Ph.D.s in sociology.  I know my dean thinks we're a dime a dozen, and I

want to put something a bit more fact-based in his ear.  Feel free to

e-mail me privately.

Each year the March-April issue of Academe (the AAUP journal) gives average salaries (by rank) for colleges across the country, so you could fine other schools in your state or others which you consider your academic competition to provide some sort of standard.  Bear in mind that these averages are almost two years old, but they do provide a base or comparison and a standard to use.
