Hi Rhonda,

I am sending three great references about conflict theory which you and
your friend might find useful:

John Horton, "Order and Conflict Theories of Social Problems as Competing
Ideologies." American Journal of Sociology 71: 701-713, 1966.

John outlines the main differences between functionalism and conflict
theory which, in this article and at the time it was written, is
a code word for Marxism.

Robert Wood, "Conflict Theory as Pedagogy. A Critique from the Left,"
Teaching Sociology Vol 10, No. 4, July 1983: 463-485.

A nice critique of the ways conflict coopts or "domesticates" Marxism
subsubming it under its ahistorical framework.

Donald McQuarle and Martin Murray, "Conflict Theory: An Obituary."
Current Perspectives in Social Theory, Vol. 5, 1984: 201-223.

After that title, nothing much can be said ;)

Best,

Martha
