I have seldom seen war treated as a social problem....... also we are
limited on the definitions of war.......vs conflict. Then there is
peace......
and non violent resistance...or struggle. Perhaps non violence can be
considered a weapon ....or a solution. There are cold wars.....to be
considered
Can there be nonviolent action in a cold war.

Wars are often lost or won long before those in the struggle know
it....or so it appears.

There are more than 20 wars going on at any given time..... how many can
we name.....
http://comnet.org/local/orgs/wilpf/listofwars.html

The Intifada which featured the highly symbolic throwing of
stones.....at armed security forces.... could have taken a step
toward the non violence of Ghandi.... but it was captured by more
violent forces..... as in India the approach to non violence
was crushed..... While the Intifada made considerable progress was it
ever appreciated as a less violent movement

In modern warfare 70% of the casualties are non combatants.......this
seems a cause to reconsider non violent strategies.
We could compare the results of violent vs non violent conflict........I
would bet that homicide and suicide rates are lower
for nonviolent conflict.

Just some thoughts.
