Teresa, My institution is a member of the Council of Undergraduate Research (CUR) and I attended their annual meeting for the first time this past summer. I found it to be a very positive experience. There is a lot of information on integrating research into curriculum and developing independent programs explicitly for the purpose of fostering collaborative student-faculty research or more "independent study" type research. There is an emphasis on research across the disciplines and not just the psych/bio stuff that usually gets done. There is strong encouragement for the social sciences and an agenda for their increased involvement. It is also a friendly place for presentation. I presented with a couple of my colleagues and we are presently developing our talk into a publication for their newsletter.

Our university is planning to become an institutional member and is looking for faculty to join as well. It sounds intriguing, but I'd love to hear from anyone who has experience with the Council about what your experience has been like and if you would recommend membership.
