Hi all,

Does it infuriate you when you're installing or updating Java and it provides
you an "offer" to install a toolbar or something. And, that "offer" is checked
by default. If you breeze by it, you'll have your home page changed, or a
toolbar installed, or your search provider changed, etc. I don't use Java on
my own systems any more, but, when I did, I really hated this.

Well, now you can disable it. This is a new feature in the Java control panel,
but it is NOT on by default. You have to turn it on.

Here's what I heard on a podcast I listen to. I cannot personally test it.

Go to the Java Control panel, advanced tab, miscellaneous, and CHECK the option
that says "Suppress sponsor offers when installing or updating java" or
something similar.

Theoretically, after that, when you update, you shouldn't get the "sponsor"
offers. I wouldn't bet any money on that working every time, and I'd still
read all installation screens. But, maybe this will help reduce some
frustration for people installing it on a repeated basis. It won't help
average Joe users who don't even know about the Java control panel. Also, I
suspect that, the first time you install, it might still "offer" you things.

You can find more data by googling: java suppress sponsor

Publicize this as widely as possible.

Sincerely,

Ron
