Hey, all. I've got a question for you. What's going to be faster, adding
a second processor (PII/400), or moving to a single new processor,
(P4/2000)? This would be on W2k running only SQL 2000. (I just saw the
price for the second processor's SQL license: $1782.14 - ouch!)

[This is a reaction to a DOS upgrade, long overdue for Software
Unlimited's Unified Accounting System (UAS), now known to be too slow in
Access. They are moving to MS - SQL 2000. While I suspect SQL 7, for
which we own licenses would work, they recommend v2000.]

If we build a server, it would have one fast processor and 15,000 RPM
drives on RAID 5. I figure that moving to faster drives from 10,000 RPM
alone would help, but in a time of cost cutting, I wonder whether even
staying on a single PII/400 and 10k RPM would suffice.

Anybody have experience in SQL speed tests? Can you refer me to someone
who would?

Thanks in advance,
