Dana,

I can answer some of those questions.

With the aid of having everyone working of identical machines we should stay in
sync and cover the Ubuntu install and Fog install very quickly.

We will then use a "spare" machine as a host and learn how to set up the BIOS
settings , register it, and so some pulls and pushes till we are comfortable.

At that point and I think we'll have plenty of time, we'll talk about the Fog
client and it's many uses.

And, I will have prepared instruction on how to Create an additional Storage
Node so you can unicast more than 10 machines at once.

We will also show how to add additional disk space to your default image space.
This is very useful since once you get going you want to image everything in
the school.

There are many other aspects to the Fog Server I have yet to cover myself. I
think in the future we could maybe do an advanced workshop, but this is will be
the basics to get people going.

The idea of using identical machines is to circumvent some of the issues we had
with the first class. Everyone got out of sync with unique issues to their
hardware or the images they were trying to pull from.

We are modeling this class off the successful IPCOP classes we had about 7-8
years ago where we had all the participants walking home with a functional
IPCOP, some of which are still running today :) The key to that success was we
all had identical machines.

Question 4 I'll let Ron handle.

Last I heard there were only 6 spots left for the Aug 4th workshop. I think we
plan to have another class in later half of September after we all settle into
school operations.

Hope this helps

Scott

Subject: Re: [tech-geeks] FOG Workshop Planned at LTC 4 August 4th

Couple of questions. I missed out on the first training but have since
install Fog and figured out a lot on my own.
Question 1) I think I have the basics mastered. How far beyond that will the
workshop cover?
Question 2) Will there be time to touch on more advanced features like Green
Fog, Backing up Fog, etc... ??
Question 3) Can someone bring their own equipment as a Fog machine?
Question 4) The statement said cost per school. Does that mean two can
attend for one price?

Thanks,

Subject: [tech-geeks] FOG Workshop Planned at LTC 4 August 4th

Greetings from Ron at Area IV LTC,

We got so much positive feedback on the F.O.G. (free opensourcee imaging)
workshop we did earlier this Spring with Chuck and company, we are planning
a second and maybe third one.

Implementing a FOG imaging appliance will be a real time saver for you, so
we are aggressive on scheduling this to get the class taught and your
imaging appliance installed before school starts.

The first FOG workshop filled up in 4 hours, so make sure to enroll
immediately by contacting Wendy
([email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>)

If the August 4th date does not work for you, let us know. We have some
secondary dates (September 1sh or October 6th) on the calendar that will be
used as a second tentative date for the workshop if the short lead time
keeps us from getting the computers in time for the August workshop
Learning from classroom feedback after the first workshop, we are
re-designing the class and will be providing the FOG server to your school
after you build it as part of the class cost recovery fees.

WHAT: FOG (computer imaging) 1-day Workshop
WHERE: Area IV Learning Technology Center, 200 S. Fredrick, Rantoul,
Illinois 61866
WHEN: Wednesday, August 4th 2010 9:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Date is
tentative, depends on equipment availability)
HOW MUCH: Depending on the equipment cost, about $300-400 for each
school (remember, you keep the server).
CLASS SIZE: 12 firm

CONTACT US IMMEDIATELY to get enrolled. We will let you know what the final
cost for the class will be, but will guarantee it not to be over $400 per
school (one FOG server)

Syllabus follows....

Own Your Own Fog Server Class Outline
Instructor, Scott Williams
Host, Learning Technology Center 4

Abstract: This is a 1 day workshop to take a total (Linux) novice from zero
to walking out the door with an imaging server for their school.
Participants will be given a Dell GX-520 Optiplex Desktop computer as part
of their registration price. We will start as a bare metal machine and turn
it into a Ubuntu based Fog Server. We will also have available for use
target Optiplex desktops that we'll use for pushing and pulling images. You
will walk out the door with a Certified CDI refurbished Dell Optiplex GX-520
loaded with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Operating system and Fog application, ready to
start imaging your computers at your school.
