KMS has a tool called the Volume Activation Management Tool (VAMT). Using this
you can add in computers based upon your Active Directory and it will ping the
machines for license Status (Activated, failed, error, not activated) and can
also convert from MAK to KMS keys very easily.

This is available in 2K8's KMS install, however I think you can get it from
Microsoft's site as well. It's also installed as part of the WAIK pack for
Windows 7 if you are using Windows Deployment Services.

District 87 is currently using these tools to activate Win7 KMS licenses and
convert over our earlier MAK keys to KMS.

Subject: [tech-geeks] Windows 7 activation

Well I am almost up to 25 win 7 machines so my kms server should kick in right?
I have my kms server on a Windows 2003 server. For those that have done this
already how do you know if your machines have registered? Do you need to do
something in DNS/DHCP to tell it where the kms server is?

I should hit 25 turned on, at the same time, tomorrow.

Has anyone switched over a mak registration to the kms?

I have found certain things, but it seems that Win 2008 server has a gui
interface for the kms part to tell what machines have registered.
