Although the maps app that comes with IOS4 does not support live voice turn-by-turn guidance, there are tons of apps out there that do. The most popular, and the one I use, is MotionX GPS, it only costs $1.99. You do have to pay for a live voice guidance subscription, but you can pay either a 30-day "as-needed" which is I believe $2.99 per every 30 days, or you can pay for an entire year of it for $24.99, which is what I did. Your subscription doesn't auto-renew when it is up which is nice is nice if you don't use your GPS very often, but since I do I just went ahead and got a yearly one. Updates to the app itself are of course free. The app is very well written and they are always adding new features, so I didn't think $24.99 a year was too much to ask for the live guidance.
