Our page is set up so that we don't get a lot of "dead wood". We use high
school sports.net for our sports schedules and just link directly to them.
The only complaints we get are "why isn't the September cafeteria menu up?",
or "why isn't the last school board meeting minutes posted". My general
response can range from "I don't have the information available yet to a
rather smart-a#$ed response that lets them know I've got more to do than
update a cafeteria menu that their kid should've brought home on paper. I
told one parent last year that I would be glad to show him how to update the
cafeteria menu and would give him a username and password so he could log in
to post the updates. The butt chewing was worth it.

Subject: [tech-geeks] Webpage Deadwood

Over the years I have collected many webpages for the school that I do not
use or are obsolete.

<rant> Unfortunately, my viewers can never remember the URL to our present
site, so they Google (gotta love Google) and they find pages up to 8 years
old.

What happens then is they click on them and get the 2002 Football schedule
and then they call the school saying we can't seem to keep our webpage up to
date.

Personally I think they should have their welfare check or unemployment
check taken away so they wouldn't have all this spare time.

But hey, that's just my opinion. </rant>

If I delete the deadwood then they will get 404's, which maybe just as bad,
should I put a re-direct in on all these obsolete pages?

What do you guys do?
