I was in Elena in 1985. I remember standing in the shelter and watching the rain go sideways and seeing corrugated aluminum fly by the doors of the shelter at 125 +MPH. We didn't have high water because of the way Elena traveled, but what the wind did was enough. I also flew through Elena and a couple others on orientation flights with the Hurricane Hunters. I find the storms interesting and would like to work at the Hurricane center after my life as a geek, but I really don't want to have my house and family have to try to get away from another one.
