Earl is huge. I read this morning that the area covered by Earl is larger than the state of California. It will engulf little ole NS and perhaps PEI and most of New Brunswick and some of Maine. In any case, you are in for a wet weekend.

Be careful and stay safe.

Bill was also Cat1 last year and he was a pussycat. No worries. A good
nor'easter up here can actually be worse than a Cat1 as they go on much
longer (24+ hours)

The track has moved a litte north of us (on Monday it was directly overhead)
into the Bay of Fundy possibly - given the Bay of Fundy has the worlds
highest tides of 28 feet that could be fun to watch. :-)
Given the size of Earl we'll feel it no matter where it lands - Nova Scotia
is fairly small. PEI where I was last week is tiny.

It's the next 3 storms lined up behind Earl that might keep it wet and windy
for a while. The coast of Africa is cranking out the storms in overdrive
this year. The gulf down there is likely to see a couple of nasty ones
before it's over, lets hope New Orleans is spared any more grief.

I just read where Earl is supposed to make landfall sometime Saturday
morning as a strong category 1 hurricane over southern Nova Scotia. Do we
know anyone who lives in southern Nova Scotia???? It says category 1
- a STRONG category 1 and it still says HURRICANE.
Dylan, prepare and be safe.......

Our managers were trying to get us to take support calls during the best
part of the storm to keep some systems up. I did not go because the streets
were flooded too much.

Don't recall the name of the hurricane but it was in the 80's when I lived in Ft. Lauderdale, I was 16, waited until the hurricane was coming ashore, drove to the beach, went out on the very end of the Pompano Beach Pier, wrapped my arms around the railing and allowed the waves, wind, and rain wash over me. The entire pier was moving, shaking and groaning under the stress of the waves battering it. It was thrilling and exhilarating at 16 years old.

I also spent time on Hurricane Hunters, turbo charged P3's. A whole
summer, based out of Champaign, IL.

I was in Elena in 1985. I remember standing in the shelter and watching the rain go sideways and seeing corrugated aluminum fly by the doors of the shelter at 125 +MPH. We didn't have high water because of the way Elena traveled, but what the wind did was enough. I also flew through Elena and a couple others on orientation flights with the Hurricane Hunters. I find the storms interesting and would like to work at the Hurricane center after my life as a geek, but I really don't want to have my house and family have to try to get away from
another one.
Stay safe Dylan.

Oh yeah...I lived in S. Florida and hurricanes and the teenage years provided some interesting (stupid) experiences that I wouldn't do now if you paid me!!!

I remember living on the Gulf Coast when I was a little geek... man, when I was younger we did some stupid things during hurricanes... I guess now that I am responsible I would just move inland. My mom has a house on the NC coast. Keep safe Dylan.
