Seems to me, likely that was the spark as such even. No
auth+login on :25, TLS requirement on submission(s). Different
kind of content checks / milters / filters etc etc. (Though it
seems "we" ("white") waste the planet for useless CI runs, mail
checks, and flights to the Caribbean).
