hi :)

maybe it is complete bullshit what i think is a problem but that's
why i ask you what you think about it

imagine the following situation every day in #freenet-refs

about 20 people join the channel
they exchange their refs with each other
after halve an hour of exchanging refs they build up a network of 20
nodes very interconnected
some of them maybe have some other refs too
but most of them are just connected within this (let's say cluster)

actually as i observed by idling in this channel there are always the
same ppl there
so some new ppl drop in and get connected to this cluster 2

i have the feeling by beeing there and looking at my location
information and theirs (after i connected to quite some of them)
that they get very close to each other with their location information
and i get the impression that within this cluster freenet works great
but other nodes that are outside of this cluster are very high to reach
then in addition there are some ubernodes there too grabbing all
"new" nodes

what finally happened to my node was that i got the location information
0.06xxxxxxxxxxx

and almost all my peers had the same location information

the farest away node had the location information 0.1xxxxxxxxxxxxx

if i understood the theory of routing in freenet this cannot be good
actually
the best way should be many close connections and 2 or 3 very far
connections

i also "tried" it with some friend of mine
we both connected to almost the same nodes
connection info got very close of us

i think especially with this ppl joining freenet staying there for a
few days and leaving again in combination with the fact
that most of these ppl end in one of this "clusters" it is really
easy that the situation is generated where routing gets into trouble

i hope i could inspire you to some ideas
on the other hand i hope i am completely wrong :)

thx for reading
