Yeah I didnt look before i lept, the usb passthrough works for live
migration, but it seems the caviat is that the vm must be booted on
the node with the usb device. So if you lose that node, you would have
to go move the dongle and make sure the vm was booted up on the
machine that has the dongle attached.
If you cannot have multiple dongles, then when the machine that the dongle
is plugged in to fails, you will have to go move the dongle in any case.
So you may as well just configure vmware to not migrate the VM off of that
system without manual interaction, because manual interaction will be
needed for any mandatory migration anyway.
the only think that you loose by doing this is migrating for load
balancing (migrating for upgrades or failures won't work anyway), but it
really shouldn't matter because the system should just migrate other
virtual machines instead.
