Without any special requirements, why don't you just run software? If everything in the network is in-sync with each other, +/- a couple of seconds, is that good enough? Like I said, this is what I do - I haven't yet worked anywhere that had a stronger requirement. VM host is configured to follow north-america.pool.ntp.org, and guest VM is configured to sync with host, and guest VM is configured as NTP server for the LAN.
