Yves, I have tried it here. I have 17 remote systems and prior to us going to Public Internet via a VPN Tunnel we were Point to Point Frane Relay and that was okay for small transfers but I could not keep the mount alive for long times because of time outs and with my OS (SCO, all remarks can be stifled) NFS is a giant overhead bite so I stopped it.
