That sounds like "overscan". I have similar problems with using mythtv on my TV. Myth has a setting where you can adjust how large of a display it thinks it has. ATI video cards have an adjustment option on them as well (if you run the proprietary ATI video driver).
I think the proprietary NVIDIA driver has an option like that as well. This may be a job for your video card.
