The development of TrueCrypt was ended in 5/2014.   I would look for
an alternative.

We use http://keepass.info/ for storing secrets, such as passwords and
API keys.  It can also store encrypted attachments, which is useful
for SSL certs and such.  I wouldn't use it for large things; it isn't
build for that.

For bigger things or things that update frequently, we encrypt them
with GPG, then store them in git.  Basically you can store it anywhere
once you have it GPG encrypted.  Oh, and the GPG keys are kept in
KeePass.

For Cisco router configuration files, we use RANCID
(http://www.shrubbery.net/rancid/) which copies the configs and then
strips out the passwords.  It keeps a history of the configuration,
therefore you can "diff" between versions.  It is very nice to be able
to see what changed, especially when debugging a live problem.
