puppet and chef are similar in features. Good at getting a node to a known state. ansible can do orchestration well. i.e. deploy MyApp means update my DB, change my web server, update load balancer, etc. You can also use ansible to direct puppet/chef. If you want to talk about OS builds, cobber can do it. It installs your OS, CM agent, CM takes over and finishes your build. If you want something fancy, take a look at katello (a.k.a. new RedHat Satellite).
