Apple Remote Desktop is basically a VNC client. Reportedly it has
better integration with the Mac desktop, but I can't talk to that. I've
used various VNC clients rather successfully with Macs. Also note that
Macs support X-windows, though obviously not giving access to the Mac
desktop.

Hi Phil,
Apple Remote Desktop is best suited to ad hoc support. If all you
machines are always on always reachable over the network you could
maybe get it to work for management.
You are much better off with JAMF Software's Casper Suite or Munki
(Open Source) https://www.munki.org/munki/

Anyone here used Apple Remote Desktop for managing computers?
How is it? Major pain points? Major wins? Pro tips?
Any insight into the security model and the tradeoffs it makes?
Thanks,
