Speaking about switch performance... I was at a SAN vendor day a month ago talking about iSCSI with some of the senior techs. One tech mentioned not all switches are equal. There was a certain model Cisco (can't remember which one) that allegedly was a gigabit switch - according to Cisco marketing. He was on a an engagement regarding poor iSCSI performance and identified the switch as actually having 3 parts, the sum of the parts added up to a little over a gig, but you did not actually get gig performance port to port.
I will not say all Cisco's are like that, but there is at least one model that is. Maybe someone on the list can recommend how to actually test switch speed. Maybe you can plug your server directly into your iSCSI SAN and test speed.
